CITY GOVERNMENT
Stuart has a mayor and city council. The city council meetings are held at City Hall, 119 E. Front St., at 6:30 PM, on the second Monday of each month. Anyone may attend the meetings. Special meetings are held when the Mayor deems necessary.
COUNTY GOVERNMENT
The town of Stuart is situated on the county line. The area north of Front Street/White Pole Road is in Guthrie County. The area south of Front Street/White Pole Road is in Adair County.

VOTING
You can register to vote by completing a voter registration form. Go to www.justvote.org, click on the IA flag symbol, and print the form. The completed form then needs to be mailed to the County Auditor’s office. You can also pick up a registration form at the County Auditor’s office and fill it out there or mail it in. In Guthrie County, that address is: County Auditor’s Office, Guthrie County Courthouse, 200 N. 5th St., Guthrie Center, IA 50115. If you live in Adair County, the form should be mailed to: County Auditor’s Office, Adair County Courthouse, 400 Public Square, Greenfield, IA 50849

Note: If the election involves city issues only, all Stuart residents vote at the Congregational Church.
NEWSPAPERS
The Stuart Herald is the town’s weekly newspaper. The Herald also publishes The Four County Bulletin, an advertising shopper. Fax and photocopy services are also available at the Herald office (119 NW 2nd St., 523-1010).
SCHOOLS AND PRE-SCHOOLS
Stuart is part of the West Central Valley Community School District, which includes the towns of Stuart, Menlo, Dexter, and Redfield. The high school (grades 9-12) is in Stuart, the middle school (grades 6-8) is in Redfield, and the elementary schools (grades K-5) and pre-schools are in Stuart and Dexter.
The school’s mascot is the West Central Wildcats, and the colors are purple and black.
In the summer/fall of 2008, construction began on a new high school and soon after that the old high school was remodeled and fitted with a new addition for the west side elementary, which is now located in Stuart.

CONGREGATE MEALS
Senior citizens have access to nutritious meals at a reduced price either through home delivery or dining-in at the Stuart-Mount Vernon United Methodist Church at 219 NW 2nd St. The meal site offers a social setting, information important to seniors, and occasionally, entertainment.
Call the church kitchen (523-2937) for meal reservations. The weekly menu is published in the Stuart Herald.
FARMERS MARKET
The Farmers Market is held at Lawbaugh Park from May thru October at 5:00 PM on Wednesdays. Fruits, vegetables, eggs, meats, baked goods, and crafts are offered for sale. Call Leisa Hasty, 523-1737, for more information.
ANNUAL CELEBRATION
Stuart’s annual celebration is called Good Egg Days. (The name comes from the town motto that was adopted many years ago: “Home of 1700 Good Eggs and a Few Stinkers”.) It’s held on Father’s Day weekend in June, and includes three days of fun for the whole family.
